Job Search Lessons They Should Have Taught You in School

Job Search Lessons They Should Have Taught You in School

We all learned many things while we were in school.  We learned how to read and write.  We learned how to do basic arithmetic.  Depending on our course of study, we learned the basics of what we needed for whatever we decided to be once we grew up.

One thing that just about all of us did not learn was how to go out and find that job.  Let’s say that you were taught that skill in school. One of the things that definitely has changed is how to best go about a job search and/or a career change in today’s world.  Many of us grew up in a generation where we worked for one employer for a long period of time and expected to work for them until we retired.  Even if we have accepted the fact that those days are over, we’re facing a job market where there are more people searching for jobs than any other time recently.  The type of employment arrangements and techniques needed these days to learn about job openings continue to change also.

This series taught by Tony Calabrese will teach you proven techniques, and help you avoid those strategies that just don’t work. These teleseminars will provide you insights that will benefit you throughout your job search whether it is now, or in the future. You can attend one, a few, or all of them – whatever is going to help you most in your job search or in switching careers.

Among the items you will learn over the nine sessions are:

•    The importance of assessing where you are to begin your job search.

•    How to target positions, and not just job openings as part of your search.

•    The importance of a verbal two minute pitch and written summary statement on your resumé

•    How to chart your job search campaign and keep momentum going throughout the process.

•    The importance of continuing to do research throughout the campaign.

•    The different strategies for getting interviews, (both for information and to discuss job openings)

•    How to prepare for your interviews

•    How to turn interviews into offers and how to negotiate salary

•    The importance of making career development an ongoing part of your life in today’s world

These sessions will be interactive,  so we can share questions and discuss ideas.
